Carpentry Structural (Ceiling and Roof Framing)

  • Ceiling Framing – 90x35 H2 MGP10 Pine ceiling framing 450mm Centers (For 900mm Rafter centers to enable rafter and ceiling joists to be nailed together as Per AS1684) or 600mm Centers for Tile roof 600mm Center Rafters.
  • Max Continuous span of 90mm x 35mm MGP10 Ceiling joist N1/N2 wind zone = 2200mm. Max single span (With hanging beam supporting midspan) = 2200mm (450mm ceiling joist centers) – 2000mm (600mm ceiling joist centers)
  • For single Spans greater than 1700mm, Upgrade to 90x45 MGP10 as per AS168
NOTE: As we specify R 5.0 Bradford Black Ceiling Batts as minimum standard, and with the added weight of approx. 0.78 kg/m2 of the Furring channel and clips, we limit hanging beam centers to 1800mm Max for 90 x 35 H2 Ceiling joists.
Best Practice air Sealing note - As per diagram above, air sealing of wall to ceiling junctions achieved by stapling Plascourse 150mm to ceiling joists and 150mm down wall framing prior to Plasterboard lining installation. Corners to be sealed with fire rated polyurethane caulking.
